To begin with, for the female employees, maternity leave ensures their health and their babies’. It is a medical common sense that a woman after delivery is weak physically and vulnerable physically, and a newly-born infant needs 24-hour caring form his or her mother during the first few months after birth. The maternity leave just gives a period of time for the females employees to recover and take good care of her baby. A good health and happy family can offer long-lasting support for a woman’s path towards career success.

In addition, from the standpoint of the company, maternity leave can boost its operation efficiency and build up a sense of belonging in female employees. A female employees after delivery cannot put as much energy and time on her work as before, so the maternity leave will avoid the lose due to the female workers’ low working efficiency and she may be thankful to the company’s understanding and caring. What the company will reap in the future is the dedication of employees as return for its welfare and humanistic concern.

Admittedly, maternity leave sometimes means the lose of human resource in the short term for a company, since in the absence of a female employee, her work needs to be done by substitute who may not perform as well as her. It may cause the rise in the operation cost. However, this problem can be solved by a qualified HR manager to make early preparation for the leave of pregnant employees to ensure her work done well by other colleagues during the maternity leave.
