掌握单词(vocabulary)是基础
如前文所述，相对于雅思的其他三门单项而言，听力考试对于单词的要求为严格(strict)。因此，这里的“掌握”，包括对一个单词声、形、意三者的把握：能读准、会拼写(包括当涉及到相关语法知识时对拼写所作的细微改变)、知含义。所幸的是(fortunately)，听力对单词的要求一般限于比较基本的词汇。因此，笔者会要求预备阶段的学生(特别是那些基础薄弱的学生)，在背好教材词汇(《热身听力》中的部分词汇和上课老师补充的场景词汇)外，还要背好《英语词汇手册》中的单词(包括动词的过去式、过去分词的变化形式)。笔者在每堂课上都会布置单词背诵作业，并在下次课上抽查，对认真完成的同学予以褒奖，完成情况不佳的学生作小小的惩罚(punishment)。
